High quality individual training

Helibiz prides itself on providing the highest quality individual training. Our senior instructors are experienced in real world helicopter operations including long lining, mustering, firebombing, surveying, flood relief etc. To achieve this high level of training, we train one on one to ensure that our students get the most value out of their effort – and you are not lost in the crowd.

Our region includes Class D & C airspace to ensure you’re commercially ready for any airport in Australia. Our region offers almost 365 days a year flying weather. We can help you achieve a Private License, Commercial License, Theory Course, Flight Review, Advanced Training, Low Level rating, Sling Endorsement, Gas Turbine Endorsement, Mustering and more.

TRIAL INTRODUCTORY FLIGHTS

If you have always wanted to try your hands at the controls of a helicopter, the best way to experience this is to take a Trial Introductory Flight (TIF).

Once airborne, the instructor will talk you through taking over the controls of the helicopter, before you realise, you are flying!

PPL

A Private Pilot Licence (PPLH) allows you to fly anywhere in Australia recreationally.  

CPL

A Commercial Pilot Licence (CPLH) allows you to be paid to fly helicopters and gives you the opportunity to have an exciting and rewarding career in the aviation industry. 

 Theory

Helibiz offers theory courses for Private and Commercial pilot licenses throughout the year, both in-person and as distance education.  

On completion of the course, you will sit an online theory exam. You need 70% to pass.

Reviews

All pilots must complete a flight review every 2 years to continue to exercise the privileges of their license. This will need to be conducted at a flying school by a qualified flight instructor. 

At Helibiz, Flight reviews are carried out by experienced instructors, who can provide training safely and efficiently.  

Allow half a day to complete the flight review.

LOW LEVEL

A Commercial Pilot Licence (CPLH) allows you to be paid to fly helicopters and gives you the opportunity to have an exciting and rewarding career in the aviation industry. 

 SLING

A Sling Operations Endorsement includes training in vertical reference, short/long line ops, load rigging and aircraft performance as requires a low-level rating.

GTE

A Gas Turbine Engine endorsement is advanced training which allows pilots to fly turbine powered helicopters and includes ground theory and practical flight hours.

Advanced training

Helibiz is the only flying school in Australia to offer an R44 advanced training course.  The course is suited to all pilots who want to advance their flying ability and learn to manage a helicopter in all areas of emergencies safer, more efficient and develop a significant increase in competence and knowledge.  The advanced training is structured on a current competency basis with an outlook to improve your skills in the following areas 

  • Precision DEP and App technique (necessary for safe autorotation on take-off and landing) 
  • Engine failures during take-off and landing 
  • Explore the height velocity graph with engine failures  
  • Autorotation’s using Min ROD, Max glide and mixed configurations 
  • 180 & 360, vertical, backwards & sideways autos 
  • Low Level quick stops 
  • Vertical reference take-off and landing 
  • Low Level manoeuvres – torque turns, spray turns, reversal turns, 180 quick stops 
  • Revisit Hydraulics off procedure 
  • Tail Rotor failure in hover and flight 
  • Jammed controls – zero speed technique 
  • Pinnacle precision approaches 
  • Confined area landings in multiple and varying areas 

In addition, we discuss and ensure you understand the following conditions – these are practical areas that need to be understood: 

  • Vortex Ring State  
  • Low RRPM & Recovery 
  • Mast Bumping – symptoms, cause and recovery 
  • LTE – Loss of tail rotor effectiveness, symptoms, causes, avoid zones – recovery techniques 
  • Governor Failure 

After years of conducting helicopter flight reviews, many pilots have been found to lack a general ability and understanding in emergency procedures and advanced flying techniques – Hence the idea of the course.  The course is individually tailored to the participants ability, desires, and experience level. There is room to be flexible in order that you gain training in areas of your choice. 

Note: advanced training is offered in the R44 only.
